Taja Montcler
Singer / SongwriterAlthough born in the UK, Taja was brought up in Torrance, a suburb of L.A., where her parents emigrated to when Taja was just two years old. She moved back to the UK after graduating from The USC Thornton School of Music, Los Angeles. She was 23 years old.
Taja now lives in London, sharing a small apartment with two friends.
She is currently single although she was involved in a serious relationship before returning to the UK.
She plays piano, guitar and saxophone (badly!). She writes all her own songs, which are based on her experiences and observations of life. Her passion is singing and recording her own material in a bedroom which she shares with one of her friends.
Her other hobbies are; travelling, walking, writing and painting. Her love of nature inspires her songs and her art.
English is her native tongue and she also speaks fluent French, Spanish, German, Egyptian Arabic and can converse reasonable well in Nobiin.
Every song she pens reflects her own experiences and close observations of the lives of her female friends. Taja is passionate about her independence and believes strongly in empowering women of all ages, although she still wants to be feminine and treated with respect.
For many years, she has been struggling with mental health issues being diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 14. Her songs sometimes reflect the difficulties she’s experienced during her life and she is hoping that her words will help other who are suffering mental illness.
Her inspiration comes from many different artists and genres. She lists Alanis Morrissete, Amy Lee, Christina Perri, Sia, Sarah McLachlan and Tracy Chapman as some of her favourites.
She plans to continue to write and sing and hopefully inspire others with her words and music. To be happy and feel worthwhile, valued and complete.
